Common Problems During Eyelash Styling – How to Handle Tearing and Twitching Eyelids?
Your styling is planned, the map is ready, you sit comfortably, and begin the application. Suddenly, you notice a tear slipping down from your client’s eyelid. Sounds familiar? Complications during eyelash extensions happen to everyone, but the key to success is quickly identifying the cause and reacting appropriately.
Tearing Eyes – How to Stop the Chain Reaction?
Tears during the procedure often result from mechanical or chemical irritation. The most common culprit is the gel pad. When a tear flows under the pad, it swells, starts irritating the eye, and attracts fumes from the glue, creating a vicious cycle of irritation.
Your solution: If you notice that the gel pad has swollen, replace it immediately! You can substitute it with aloe pads, micropore tape, or foam pads – these are gentler on the sensitive eye area and don’t contain the gel layer that may cause irritation.

A Not Fully Closed Eyelid and Client Safety
Tearing often occurs because the client unknowingly opens their eyelid during relaxation. Even a tiny gap can allow glue fumes to get inside, causing burning and irritation to the cornea.
How to prevent this?
- Use a mirror – Regularly check if the eyelid is fully closed, especially from the bottom view.
- Create a fake wrinkle – During eyelid lifting, avoid pulling the tape to the forehead. Create a small fold with the tape that will lift the eyelid but not open it.
- Weigh it down – In more difficult cases, you can gently press the eyelid with a pad or attach a few lower lashes to the pad to immobilize the eye.
Lash Tip: A lifting tape can improve the visibility of the lash line – stick it above the eyelid crease to gently lift the skin and get better access during the application.

How to Eliminate Twitching Eyelids?
The causes of a “nervous” eyelid can vary – from overly bright light to sensitivity to auxiliary products. If your client is experiencing twitching eyelids:
- Reduce the light intensity – Change the color to a warmer tone or lower the lamp's brightness.
- Relaxation and massage – A relaxed client means a calmer eyelid! A gentle temple massage before the procedure can do wonders.
- Nano sprayer – If there is stinging without tears, use a nano sprayer to neutralize the glue fumes and provide instant relief.
